Bitcoin dominance is 58.2%, read on 25 September 2026. That is the share of the whole crypto market that sits in Bitcoin. The number below is not a screenshot of somebody else's chart, it comes from a record we keep ourselves, every day.
Dominance can move a long way without a single dollar changing hands. It is a ratio of two market values, and a market value is price times supply. If altcoins fall fifteen percent while Bitcoin stands perfectly still, dominance rises. No money moved. The denominator shrank.
That is why we file this number under position and not under flow. It tells you where value currently sits. It does not tell you where money went, and anybody who reads it that way is reading a price chart as if it were a bank statement.
The only freely available number in this corner that really measures money is the supply of stablecoins, because somebody had to hand over a real dollar for each one. Every other figure here, dominance included, is price wearing a percentage sign.
CoinGecko publishes dominance as a current value with no history behind it. Ask for it today and you get today. There is no way to ask what it was six weeks ago.
So we write it down. Once a day, since 15 August 2026, into a file in our own repository. Every day nobody records is a day gone for good, which is the entire reason the job exists. The series is young and we will not pretend otherwise, but it grows by one row every single day and nobody can take those rows back.
It does not tell you when altcoin season starts. That gets decided after the fact, by counting how many large altcoins beat Bitcoin over some window. Any single dominance level sold to you as the trigger is a rule of thumb somebody made up, not a measurement.
It does not tell you what happens next, and we publish no price targets, in any format, ever. It tells you where the market sits today, with the date attached, so you can check it yourself.
The figure at the top of this page, with the date it was taken next to it.
The share of total crypto market value that is Bitcoin. At 60 percent, sixty cents of every dollar of crypto market value is Bitcoin.
Not necessarily. See the section above. Falling altcoins lift dominance on their own.
There is no such level. Anyone naming one is sharing a habit, not a number.
CoinGecko's global endpoint, read once a day and written into our own file, which the page reads back in your browser.
Every day.
